The last of the group of main symbols to cover is the Wedjat which resembles the “Eye of Horus,” but gives us a better clue as to its origin. In the two artifacts I have presented, a gold and a faience amulet c. 332-30 BC, show clearly the eye as the mushroom cap and a stem underneath it (37d).

    Ouroboros

The Ouroboros is a very ancient symbol in metaphysics and alchemy dating back at least to the 14th century BC in Egypt (37h, i). The imagery of the serpent swallowing its tail has been attributed to all kinds of things, for instance, “eternity” or “life-changing and evolving back into itself.” The symbolism is truly representing the urine consumption from the psychedelic mushroom. The Greek word for Urine is ouran and the Greek word for tail is oura. The word Ouroboros is a word that has been used to imply the hidden meaning of drinking one’s urine, through mythological iconography. The “eternity” and “life evolving and changing” characteristics are only the surface story for the uninitiated.
